POSTECH Math Alumni Host 'Onboarding Hope Day' Networking Event

On Saturday, June 27, the POSTECH Department of Mathematics Alumni Association held its "Onboarding Hope Day" pub-style networking event near Seoul Station from 4 to 7 p.m. Twelve alumni from diverse fields including academia, finance, and entrepreneurship joined nineteen current students for an evening of connection and mentorship. The event opened with remarks from Alumni Association President Kang Byeong-gwan (Class of 97), who encouraged alumni to take an active role in supporting their juniors as they establish themselves across society.

The main program featured candid career talks from senior alumni, covering topics such as how mathematical thinking translates into real-world practice, what to consider when entering the finance sector, and the unique strengths that a mathematics background brings in the age of AI. Table networking sessions organized by career track — covering employment, entrepreneurship, and academia — followed, sparking lively conversations that ran well past the allotted time.

As the evening came to a close, participants exchanged contact information and committed to staying in touch. The POSTECH Mathematics Alumni Association looks forward to continuing to create spaces where alumni and students can grow together.
