Seunghoon Jeong, a doctoral student in the Department of Mathematics at POSTECH, received the Grand Prize in the Outstanding Poster Award at the International Conference for the 80th Anniversary of the Korean Mathematical Society (KMS), held June 22–25, 2026 at the Korea Science and Technology Convention Center in Seoul.

The Korean Mathematical Society, founded in 1946, is Korea's largest mathematical academic organization, hosting annual conferences that bring together mathematicians from across the country and abroad. This year's conference was expanded to an international scale to mark its 80th anniversary, making the Grand Prize in the poster session one of the most prestigious recognitions at the event.

The award-winning poster, titled "Asymptotic convergence of nonconvex Wasserstein gradient flows," presents a mathematically rigorous proof that solutions to gradient flows in the space of probability measures (Wasserstein space) converge to a stable equilibrium over time, even under nonconvex energy landscapes. The work introduces a novel approach by extending the Łojasiewicz-Simon theory to the infinite-dimensional Wasserstein setting, providing a theoretical foundation applicable to a wide range of fields including machine learning optimization, the Keller-Segel model for biological cell migration, and plasma physics.
