POSTECH Mathematics and MINDS Host the 19th EASIAM Annual Meeting in Jeju

The 19th East Asia Section of SIAM Annual Meeting (EASIAM 2026), hosted by the Department of Mathematics and the Mathematical Institute for Data Science (MINDS) at POSTECH, was held in Jeju, Korea, from August 23 to 27, 2026.

The EASIAM Annual Meeting is East Asia's leading international conference in industrial and applied mathematics and scientific computing, and this year marked its nineteenth edition. Held on Jeju Island, the meeting drew more than 450 researchers, including some 300 participants from abroad, making it the largest EASIAM Annual Meeting to date.

The conference was chaired by Professor Minseok Choi of the Department of Mathematics at POSTECH, who currently serves as Vice-President of EASIAM, with Professor Jae-Hun Jung serving as co-chair. Professors Jinwoo Jang and Jinsu Kim also served on the organizing committee, contributing to both the scientific program and the running of the meeting.

The program covered recent advances across applied mathematics, numerical analysis, scientific computing, optimization, partial differential equations, data science, and scientific machine learning. Alongside plenary and invited lectures, the meeting featured numerous minisymposia, contributed talks, and poster sessions. Researchers from across Asia as well as from the United States and Europe took part, fostering an active exchange of ideas.

Participation by students and early-career researchers was a particular highlight. Graduate students from the POSTECH SIAM Student Chapter took an active role in both the organization and the academic program of the meeting, and the Student Chapter program gave them the opportunity to connect with peers from universities abroad and broaden their professional networks.

Through hosting EASIAM 2026, the Department of Mathematics at POSTECH has further strengthened its ties with the international communities in industrial and applied mathematics and scientific machine learning, laying the groundwork for expanded collaboration and academic exchange among researchers at home and abroad.
