ECNU Delegation and Exchange Students Visit POSTECH Mathematics

A delegation from East China Normal University (ECNU) visited the POSTECH Department of Mathematics on September 2, 2026, to discuss avenues for exchange and cooperation between the two institutions. Founded in Shanghai in 1951, ECNU is a prestigious university supported by China's national "Project 211" and "Project 985" initiatives, and in 2017 it was named among the country's leading research institutions under the "Double First-Class" University Plan.
The delegation included Prof. Zhi Jia, Head of the School of Mathematical Sciences at ECNU, Prof. Hairong Yuan, Associate Dean of the School, along with Prof. Ke Liu and Prof. Biao Ma.

Beginning with a tea meeting with Sungmin Park, Director of the Office of External Cooperation, the delegation held a series of meetings with the department's steering committee, a luncheon, and follow-up discussions, exploring a broad range of collaboration measures including student exchange and joint research. Professors Jaehun Jung, Jinwoo Jang, Minseok Choi, and Bogwang Jeon took part on behalf of the POSTECH Department of Mathematics.
In conjunction with the visit, 18 exchange students from ECNU began their studies at the POSTECH Department of Mathematics, accompanied by their faculty advisor, Prof. Biao Ma of ECNU. Prof. Ma earned his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa and specializes in differential geometry, geometric analysis, and partial differential equations.

In the afternoon, the delegation joined a meeting and dinner with the department's undergraduate student council and ECNU student representatives, fostering exchange among students. The visit is expected to further strengthen academic exchange and cooperation between the POSTECH Department of Mathematics and ECNU.
