[Veritas Alpha=Reporter Jung Dabin] POSTECH announced on the 11th that it will hold a special lecture for students and citizens in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics (APCTP) on the 14th of March, in celebration of "Pi Day" in the Mathematics Department. Pi, representing the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, is an infinite decimal that does not repeat its digits. UNESCO officially designated March 14th as "World Mathematics Day" to commemorate the French mathematician Jartoux, who devised pi.

POSTECH Mathematics Department also commemorates Pi Day every year and will begin the event at 3:14 PM on March 14th at the ChangeUpGround event hall. The public lecture will consist of two sessions. Firstly, Professor Lee Kyung-seok of the POSTECH Mathematics Department will deliver a lecture on algebraic geometry titled "Time and Distance," followed by a lecture by Dr. Yoon Jung-gi of APCTP on gravity, quantum mechanics, and quantum information titled "Beyond the Event Horizon."

In addition, there will be a "How Well Do You Know Pi? Pi Day Kahoot! Quiz" session organized by the POSTECH Mathematics Department's undergraduate society. Apart from POSTECH members, students and citizens of Pohang can also participate by simply applying, and they can receive a participation certificate if needed. This event, jointly organized by POSTECH Mathematics Department and APCTP, is sponsored by Gyeongbuk Province, Pohang City, and the Lottery Commission.
