Department of Mathematics Open House

On Tuesday, May 27, 2026, the Department of Mathematics held an Open House at Mathematical Science Building Room 104, beginning at 5:00 PM.
The event was organized for POSTECH faculty members with an interest in mathematics, with the aim of providing a relaxed and welcoming setting to hear about current mathematical research and engage in open conversation. A number of faculty and staff from departments across campus attended, and the occasion was further honored by the presence of Executive Vice President Prof. Kyuyeol Jeong.
The program opened with a department introduction by Department Chair Prof. Jae-Hun Jung, who provided an overview of the department and its faculty. This was followed by Junior Faculty research presentations from three professors. Prof. Jin Woo Jang presented on the long-time dynamics of the 3D Vlasov-Maxwell System with Boundaries; Prof. Minseok Choi spoke on the intersection of computational science and machine learning for accelerating scientific and engineering simulations; and Prof. Kyoung-Seog Lee introduced his work on surfaces with geometric genus zero. Each presentation offered an accessible glimpse into the faculty's research, sparking lively questions and discussion among attendees.
Following the formal program, a Tea Time was held with light refreshments, allowing faculty and guests to continue their conversations in an informal atmosphere. Attendees expressed that the event provided a valuable opportunity to learn about the department's research activities and connect with its faculty.
The Department of Mathematics hopes that this Open House will serve as a meaningful step toward deepening ties with the wider POSTECH community, and looks forward to hosting further opportunities for academic exchange in the future.
