Recognized for exceptional research achievements in the field of mathematics as a rising scientist
Professor Kyoung-Seog Lee of the Department of Mathematics at POSTECH has been selected as a fellow of the 17th POSCO Science Fellowship, organized by the POSCO TJ Park Foundation. Professor Lee received the official fellowship certificate at the award ceremony held on October 23 at the POSCO Center in Seoul.

The POSCO Science Fellowship is one of the foundation’s flagship programs designed to discover and support promising young scientists who will lead the future of science and technology in Korea. Since its launch in 2009, the program has selected 543 emerging researchers and provided approximately 36.4 billion KRW in research funding, helping early-career scientists establish a stable foundation for their academic pursuits in both basic and applied sciences.
This year, 440 young professors from 75 universities nationwide applied for the fellowship, recording a highly competitive 14:1 acceptance rate. After a rigorous selection process, 30 researchers were chosen as the 17th class of POSCO Science Fellows. Professor Lee was recognized for his outstanding achievements and potential contributions to the field of mathematics, earning him a place among this year’s recipients.
The award ceremony featured special lectures by Distinguished Professor Sang Yup Lee of KAIST and Chair Professor Chulsung Hwang of Seoul National University. In addition, Professor Moon Jeong Park of POSTECH, recipient of the 2025 TJ Park Science Prize and a former POSCO Science Fellow, delivered a video message encouraging the new fellows to pursue their research with perseverance and pride.
The POSCO TJ Park Foundation announced that it will continue to support talented young scientists, enabling them to thrive in a stable and encouraging research environment in Korea.
Professor Lee’s selection as a POSCO Science Fellow is expected to further strengthen the research excellence of the POSTECH Department of Mathematics and contribute to the department’s continued academic growth and innovation.
