The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 22nd that it will hold the second Public Mathematics Lecture on the 23rd at 10 a.m. in the main auditorium of Daegu Science High School, targeting over 150 high school students and teachers.

Following the first lecture in May by Professor Hyung Ju Hwang of POSTECH, titled “The Meeting of Artificial Intelligence and Mathematics,” Professor Inseok Seo of Seoul National University’s Department of Mathematical Sciences will give a lecture entitled “How Has Humanity Learned to Live with Uncertainty?”

Professor Seo, who received the Korean Mathematical Society Paper Award in 2025 for his research on metastability in complex systems, is a mathematician who has consistently communicated the concept of “Mathematics for Understanding an Uncertain World” to the public through lectures on probability and randomness.

In his lecture, Professor Seo will introduce how humanity has sought order amid uncertainty, based on research in probability theory and stochastic processes. He will also emphasize the power of mathematical thinking in understanding and responding to uncertainty.

Meanwhile, upcoming lectures include Professor Hong Young-jun of Seoul National University on September 30, discussing “Numerical Analysis: The Art of Approximation and Scientific Computing,” and Professor Park Hyung-joo of Ajou University on October 25, presenting “A Panorama of Modern and Contemporary Korean Mathematics.”
